Government Review Commission Plans Statewide
Meetings; Invites Citizens to Comment
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri State Government Review Commission has just completed a series of fact-finding meetings with state department directors and heard from interest groups in Capitol public hearings. The Commission now plans to travel to St. Louis, St. Joseph, Kansas City, Springfield, Cape Girardeau and Kirksville to give Missourians across the state the opportunity to express their opinions about state government.
Gov. Matt Blunt established the Commission to examine the executive departments from top-to-bottom and to make recommendations on how state government can address inefficiencies, achieve cost savings and provide better service. The last major government reorganization effort was in 1974.
"Over the last two months scores of experts and interest groups have expressed their views to us in Jefferson City," Steven Bradford, Commission Co-chair said. "Now we want to meet with the general public throughout the state to hear their views."
The Commission will hold six regional public hearings in June and July. Their schedule follows.
